HAS KARIMBAKSH BEEN QUESTIONED? POLICE REMAIN TIGHT-LIPPED ON SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS

HGP Nightly News – The Guyana Police Force has provided little information on what investigative steps, if any, have been taken following serious allegations of rape and death threats involving a firearm against Deputy Commissioner of Police and SOCU Head Fizal Karimbaksh.

HGP Nightly News specifically asked whether Karimbaksh has been formally interviewed or questioned in relation to the allegations reportedly made by a serving female Police Inspector.

The Force was also asked whether Karimbaksh has been relieved of, or restricted from, any of his duties while the allegations are being investigated.

Neither question was answered. At approximately 9:28 a.m., Communications Director of the Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, Jillian Bowen-Moore, responded: “Releases will be published by the CCU as they become available. However your questions are noted.”

The response did not indicate whether Karimbaksh has been questioned, whether an investigation has formally commenced, or whether any administrative action has been taken.

The female Inspector has alleged that Karimbaksh sexually assaulted her on separate occasions and repeatedly threatened to kill her if she ended their alleged relationship.

She has also alleged that Karimbaksh pointed a firearm at her during an encounter outside the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission in September 2024.

The allegations have not been proven, and Karimbaksh is entitled to due process.

However, questions remain about how the Force is handling the allegations involving one of its most senior officers and what steps have been taken since the Inspector reportedly provided an official statement.

HGP Nightly News will continue seeking answers from the Guyana Police Force as the matter develops.
