CROMWELL CLAIMS FAMILY BEING TARGETED IN MISSING SURINAMESE PROBE

HGP Nightly News – Mark “Demon” Cromwell is accusing police of trying to make his brother a “scapegoat” as investigators continue probing the disappearance of two Surinamese nationals who reportedly entered Guyana more than a month ago.

Cromwell, in a lengthy recorded statement posted to Facebook, denied having anything to do with the men’s disappearance. He also maintained that members of his family were not involved.

“Them want to make me brother scapegoat in this case,” Cromwell declared. He alleged that investigators were targeting him and his relatives because of his past and reputation.

According to Cromwell, police visited his residence and his wife was subsequently taken to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters.

He claimed that he had received information before investigators arrived that police were heading to his home. His wife nevertheless cooperated and accompanied ranks to CID headquarters, according to his account.

Cromwell further claimed that an associate was detained after taking a vehicle to investigators. He said police later indicated that his brother was also wanted.

Cromwell also levelled allegations of corruption against members of the Guyana Police Force, claiming that some ranks had previously collected money from his businesses. “The police dem corrupt,” he alleged.

No evidence supporting that allegation was presented in his recorded statement.Cromwell acknowledged having a troubled past but argued that this should not be treated as evidence linking him to the current investigation.

At one point, he declared that he was “not a bad man” and maintained that he would defend himself when confronted. His comments come as police continue investigating the disappearance of the two Surinamese nationals.

Several persons have reportedly been detained as part of the investigation, while searches have been conducted in the Vigilance-Buxton area. Cromwell continues to deny that he or members of his family had anything to do with the men’s disappearance.

Questions remain over what happened to the two men after they entered Guyana and what evidence, if any, investigators have connecting those detained or being sought to their disappearance.
