MOHAMED HEARS CALLS FOR WATER, TRANSPORT AND ACCOUNTABILITY DURING REGION SEVEN OUTREACH

HGP Nightly News – Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed on Sunday conducted a series of outreach visits across three locations, including Tassarene in Region Seven, Upper Mazaruni, where residents raised concerns about basic services, incomplete projects and the need for stronger support for Indigenous communities.

During the engagement in Tassarene, residents said St. Martin’s Primary School is being affected by a non-functional water system caused by a faulty pump. They claimed the situation has forced parents to manually fetch water for meal preparation, while also pointing to an incomplete school fence which they said has gone beyond its contractual deadline.

Residents also called for urgent transportation support, including a boat and engine to move students and teachers along the river. They further raised the need for a new road linking Tassarene to Issano, explaining that the current route becomes difficult or impossible to use when water levels rise.

Youth development was also raised, with residents requesting sports equipment and floodlights. They also called for a river ambulance to serve several Mazaruni River communities, saying emergency response remains a major concern for families living in remote areas.

Other issues included complaints about transparency and accountability in village finances. Residents called for audits of funds, including LCDS monies, while also raising concerns about late birth registration and what they described as neglect of their community.

Following the outreach, We Invest in Nationhood called on the Government to address the concerns raised and improve conditions for Indigenous communities. The party said stronger oversight is needed to ensure projects are completed on time and community assets are properly maintained.
