32-YEAR-OLD WOMAN KILLED IN EAST COAST ROAD TRAGEDY

HGP Nightly News – A quiet stretch of road along the Green Field Railway Embankment on the East Coast of Demerara turned deadly on Sunday night, claiming the life of a 32-year-old woman and leaving another fighting to recover.

Dead is Thana Cambridge of Ann’s Grove. She was the driver and owner of motor car PAE 6337. Police said the vehicle was travelling west along the embankment road when Cambridge reportedly swerved suddenly to avoid a herd of cows on the roadway.

In those critical moments, she lost control of the car, which slammed violently into a concrete light pole before plunging into a nearby trench. Cambridge and her lone passenger, Marrisa Semple, a 27-year-old teacher, were both seriously injured in the impact.

Public-spirited citizens who witnessed the aftermath rushed to help, pulling the unconscious women from the wreckage and transporting them to the Enmore Regional Hospital.Cambridge was pronounced dead on arrival.

Semple, who sustained serious injuries, remains hospitalised under medical observation. The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the Ann’s Grove community, as another young life was cut short in a moment of chaos on an unlit roadway.

The incident has also renewed concerns about stray animals on public roads and the dangers motorists face while travelling at night.

As investigations continue, a family is left grieving, a friend and colleague remains in hospital, and a community is once again forced to confront the deadly consequences that can unfold in seconds on Guyana’s roads.
