WOMAN IN CUSTODY AS POLICE PROBE EXECUTION-STYLE KILLING OF CUBAN NATIONAL

HGP Nightly News – A 45-year-old woman from Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara, is in police custody as investigators continue to probe the execution-style killing of a Cuban national outside a business establishment on Forshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.

Dead is 23-year-old Dainier Vegas Infante, a Cuban national who was employed as a janitor and resided at Alexander Village, Georgetown.

According to police, the shooting occurred at around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday after four men arrived in the area.

Investigators said one of the men, who was armed with a handgun, approached two persons who were seated outside the establishment and began speaking with them.

Police said Infante later exited the building and walked toward the group. At that point, the gunman allegedly opened fire, striking him and causing him to collapse.

The shooter then escaped in a waiting motor vehicle, while the other men fled the scene separately.

Infante was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

As part of the investigation, police used the Guyana Police Force Command Centre and surveillance systems to track and intercept a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting.

The 45-year-old woman was subsequently arrested and remains in custody while investigators continue to process the vehicle for evidence and review CCTV footage from the area.

HGP Nightly News understands that investigators have already identified the alleged gunman responsible for the fatal shooting.

However, sources close to the investigation say concerns are mounting that the probe is moving too slowly, despite surveillance footage, vehicle tracking data and other critical evidence reportedly being available to investigators.

The killing has raised fresh questions about the pace of the investigation and whether swift action will be taken in light of the evidence already gathered.

Police have not yet announced charges in the matter.

HGP Nightly News will continue to monitor developments as pressure grows for transparency, accountability and justice in the killing of Infante.
