GEORGETOWN – A tragic collision along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Tuesday afternoon claimed the lives of two men after a speeding car slammed into the rear of a parked truck at Moblissa.
The Guyana Police Force confirmed that around 15:15hrs, a truck registered GAG 3120 was stationary on the eastern side of the roadway due to mechanical problems.
While a mechanic, 49-year-old Brian Manorharlall of Agricola, East Bank Demerara, was working at the rear of the vehicle, a car registered PRR 5367 approached at what investigators believe was a fast speed.
Police say the driver, 32-year-old Asham Sultan of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, reportedly lost control before crashing directly into the back of the truck, striking Manorharlall in the process. The impact killed both men on the scene.
A doctor from the Linden Hospital Complex later confirmed their deaths. Their bodies have been taken to the Linden Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
