HGP Nightly News – The tragic death of 16-year-old Altaf King of Little Africa, Corriverton, has drawn strong concern from the PNCR/APNU, which is calling for an urgent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
King reportedly died following an incident at about 6:40 p.m. in Princetown, Corriverton. His death has since sparked grief across the community and renewed questions about police conduct.
In a statement, the People’s National Congress Reform and A Partnership for National Unity said they were “profoundly shocked and saddened” by the teenager’s death.
“We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Altaf’s family, friends, classmates, and the wider Corriverton community during this time of unimaginable grief,” the statement said.
The party said the loss of such a young life was “a tragedy that has deeply affected the nation.”
PNCR/APNU also said it was “deeply disturbed” by reports alleging that King was being pursued by officers attached to the Springlands Police Station while riding a motorcycle, and that the chase resulted in the collision that claimed his life.
The party also raised concern over allegations that the teenager was left bleeding at the scene without receiving prompt assistance.
“These are serious allegations that demand urgent, transparent, and impartial investigation,” the statement said.
According to PNCR/APNU, its Regional and District representatives, Anil Sugrim, Candy Ceres, and Steve Bernett, are currently on the ground with King’s family, offering sympathy, moral support, and solidarity with the community.
The party said it “strongly condemns any conduct by law enforcement officers that places the lives and safety of citizens, particularly our young people, at unnecessary risk.”
It added that the Guyana Police Force has a duty to protect life, and that every operation must be carried out with “professionalism, restraint, and full regard for human life.”
PNCR/APNU is calling for a full, independent, transparent, and impartial investigation into King’s death. It is also calling for the immediate preservation of all relevant evidence, including police records, communications, and any available video footage.
The party said appropriate action must be taken against anyone found to have acted negligently or unlawfully, and that the findings should be released to the public in a timely manner to ensure accountability and maintain public confidence.
“The PNCR/APNU stands with the grieving family in their pursuit of truth and justice,” the statement said. “No family should have to endure the pain of losing a child under such circumstances without clear answers and accountability.”
