OPPOSITION LEADER RUSHES $9M TO SAVE 12-YEAR-OLD DELROY AS SURGERY LOOMS

HGP Nightly News – With just hours to go before a 12-year-old boy undergoes life-saving surgery, Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed has made an urgent plea to President Irfaan Ali and the First Lady to step in and assist, after personally contributing to the child’s medical fund. Delroy Moses, a young resident of Victoria, East Coast Demerara, has been diagnosed with a ruptured saccular aneurysm, a life-threatening condition that requires immediate surgical intervention.

The procedure cannot be performed at the Georgetown Public Hospital, but it is available at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, at a cost of $9 million.Mohamed visited the family at their home on the eve of the scheduled surgery, making a personal financial contribution toward the staggering bill. But with the full amount still needed and the operation set for tomorrow, the opposition leader is now calling on the highest office in the land to intervene.

“We are calling on the President and the First Lady to offer assistance,” Mohamed said. “Significant sums have been allocated to both offices for humanitarian efforts. We hope that young Delroy Moses’ health will be considered and prioritized.”

The intervention by the Opposition Leader highlights both the desperate situation facing the family and the broader question of how life-saving medical care is funded in Guyana. For a child with a ruptured aneurysm, time is measured not in days but in hours.

The difference between life and death may come down to whether $9 million can be raised before the surgeon’s scalpel meets its deadline. The family has issued a plea of their own, asking the public for prayers as tomorrow approaches. But they acknowledge that the road does not end with the operation.

Assistance will still be needed for the recovery process, for follow-up care, for the months of healing that lie beyond the operating theatre. Those wishing to donate or assist can contact the family directly at 697-6151 or 667-9600.
