MOHAMED SAYS SANCTIONS CASE BEING PURSUED IN US, EXPECTS ‘SOMETHING GOOD SOON’

Presidential Candidate of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, Azruddin Mohamed, says his legal team in the United States is working to have sanctions against him lifted and that he expects positive news soon.

“The team in the United States of America, they’re working very hard. Just yesterday I talked to them, and something good should pull off very soon,” Mohamed told reporters today. He did not give a timeline but stressed that efforts were active.

Mohamed also dismissed suggestions that he should be worried about possible legal action in Guyana after the elections, an issue raised by senior government officials. “Why should I be worried? What did I do? I’m not a criminal. They just want to paint a bad picture of me,” he said.

Turning to his candidacy, Mohamed said his decision to contest was motivated by the struggles of ordinary citizens, particularly single mothers, pensioners, and persons living with disabilities. “For too long they have been neglected. This is why I’ve decided to run,” he said. He denied that the move was linked to any personal fallout with President Irfaan Ali, saying, “I have absolutely no problems with Mr. Ali. I think he has a problem with me, but I don’t have any problem with him.”

The WIN party leader rejected claims that he is playing the victim to gain political support. “The people know that I have a heart that cares for the people of this country. I don’t need to do that,” he said. Mohamed argued that victimization of his campaign staff was real, citing the detention of his campaign manager in Mabaruma as an example.

With elections approaching, Mohamed urged undecided voters to back his party. “You have no other option than to vote for the WIN party… It’s not just a party. It’s a movement, a team of good people, trusted people that will work tirelessly to better your lives,” he said.

Responding to skepticism over his ties to both major parties, Mohamed admitted his businesses had donated to the PPP and PNCR in past elections but said that did not mean he was aligned with either side. “We always donate every election. We had a close relationship with Irfaan Ali as a Muslim brother to a Muslim brother. But Irfaan Ali never granted me any favor in business. Years now we have built on hard work and no government influence,” he explained.

Mohamed also said he welcomed the Carter Center’s observer report, describing it as “fair” and “nothing but the truth,” while insisting that the WIN party offered voters a genuine alternative to the two traditional parties.
