MOHAMED EXTRADITION CASE PAUSED UNTIL MARCH 23

HGP Nightly News – The extradition proceedings involving Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin Mohamed were adjourned on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, following a series of scheduling and attendance challenges. Magistrate Judy Latchman ruled that the matter will resume on Tuesday, March 23, after considering the circumstances presented.

The hearing, which continues to attract close public attention, was disrupted by the absence of defence attorney Siand Dhurjon, who represents Nazar Mohamed. Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde informed the court that Dhurjon was unwell and had notified the clerk, though no timeline was provided for his return. Attorney Damien DaSilva, meanwhile, may withdraw from the matter due to family obligations, raising further questions about the defence’s availability.

Despite these developments, Magistrate Latchman directed that proceedings continue, with Forde assuming responsibility for cross-examination. Nazar Mohamed expressed concern about moving forward without his counsel, but the magistrate noted that his direct role at this stage remained limited.

The prosecution, led by Glen Hanoman, voiced concern over repeated interruptions and urged the court to guard against potential misuse of its processes. He suggested proceeding with another witness to maintain momentum. Forde rejected any implication of delay tactics, citing legitimate circumstances, including the Mohamed family’s observance of Eid al-Fitr. Both Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed emphasized the significance of the occasion, noting that Muslims traditionally refrain from work during the celebration.

Magistrate Latchman acknowledged the importance of religious observance but underscored the need for efficiency. She cautioned that no further delays would be entertained, warning that if additional issues arise, the accused may have to represent himself. Hanoman also suggested that Azruddin Mohamed consider securing additional legal representation to avoid further interruptions.
