Football
We begin with football, where action continued in the Georgetown Football Association Senior Menโs League with four fixtures played over the weekend at the Plaissance Community Centre Ground.
On Saturday, Black Pearl FC edged Ordis FC 1โ0 in the opening encounter, while Riddim Squad FC delivered a commanding 3โ0 victory over Pele FC in the second match.
Sundayโs action saw Beacon FC secure a 2โ1 win over Eastveldt FC, while Camptown FC and North Stars FC played to a scoreless draw.
League action resumes on Tuesday with two fixtures at Plaissance. Northern Rangers FC will face Motherland FC, followed by Vengy FC against Ordis FC.
Basketball
Turning to basketball, the inaugural Schools Basketball League tipped off with three matches across multiple venues in Georgetown on Friday.
At the Queenโs College Court, Queenโs College defeated St. Stanislaus College 66โ42. Meanwhile, Presidentโs College edged St. Roseโs High School 47โ41 at the St. Roseโs Court, led by a 15-point performance from Romarion Wolfe. Chaziah Bernard also scored 15 points for St. Roseโs in a losing effort.
The final match of the day saw a dominant display from the Government Technical Institute, who overwhelmed Marian Academy 84โ38 at the Marian Court. Sean Duncan led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, while Lucas Pinol contributed 12 points for Marian Academy.
Cricket โ Womenโs T20 Blaze
In cricket, Guyana recorded a four-wicket victory over Jamaica in Round Three of the 2026 CWI Womenโs T20 Blaze at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Saturday.
Batting first, Jamaica were restricted to 87 for 9 in their 20 overs. Stafanie Taylor top-scored with 24, while Rashada Williams added 23. For Guyana, Ashmini Munisar was outstanding with figures of 3 for 11, supported by Plaffianna Millington and Sheneta Grimmond, who each claimed two wickets.
In reply, Guyana reached 88 for 6 in 15.3 overs, led by an unbeaten 50 from captain Chamaine Campbell. Sheneta Grimmond chipped in with 14 runs to seal the win.
Guyanaโs next fixture will be against Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday at Arnos Vale.
Cricket โ ICC U-19 Menโs World Cup
More cricket now, as the West Indies Under-19s suffered a 138-run defeat to Afghanistan in Group action of the 2026 ICC U-19 Menโs World Cup at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek on Sunday.
Afghanistan posted 262 for 6 after winning the toss and batting first. Osman Sadat led the charge with 88, while Player of the Match Mahoob Khan added 86. Jakeem Pollard and Vitel Lawes each claimed three wickets for the West Indies.
In response, the Windies were dismissed for 124 in 33.2 overs. Jewel Andrew top-scored with 57, while Nooristani Omarzi starred with the ball for Afghanistan, taking 4 for 16.
The West Indies Under-19s will next face South Africa on Thursday at the same venue.
Cricket โ Ultimate Fete Match
Finally in cricket, action took place in the Ultimate Fete Match between Tourism Guyana and FL Sport at the Lusignan Sports Club Ground on Saturday.
Batting first, FL Sport were bowled out for 123 in 19.5 overs. Deonarine Dindyal top-scored with 21, while national Under-13 opener Nathaniel Ramkhelawan added 20. Rohan Sucknandan led the bowling for Tourism Guyana with 3 for 24, while Denesh Singh and Nyron Mahraj picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Tourism Guyana were dismissed for 56 in 13.1 overs. Seon Bovell delivered a devastating spell of 4 for 6, supported by Deonarine Dindyal with 3 for 14 and Ryan Ramlall with 2 for 17, sealing a 67-run victory for FL Sport.
Individual awards went to Seon Bovell for Most Wickets and Deonarine Dindyal for Most Runs. Rohan Sucknandan received Tourism Guyanaโs award for Most Wickets, while Devaughn Nandan was their top scorer with 13 runs. Delwin Neblett was also recognised for his all-round performance.
