Vincent “Sirpatta” Hugh Memorial Race Set for Linden on Saturday
LINDEN, UPPER DEMERARA-BERBICE — Local cyclists will gather in Linden on Saturday afternoon for the GJetsCo 40-Mile Memorial Cycle Race, held in honor of the late former national cyclist and sports administrator Vincent “Sirpatta” Hugh.
The 40-mile road race is scheduled to pedal off at 14:30 hrs (2:30 PM) from the Kara Kara Call Centre, proceeding along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway to Camp Seweyo before returning to the starting line at Kara Kara. Competitors will battle across six distinct categories: Elite Males, Females, Juniors, Juveniles, Category 4, and Masters.
Slingerz FC Dominates SWA Sharks 4-0 to Advance in CFU Club Shield

COUVA, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO — Guyana’s Elite League champions Slingerz FC kicked off their 2026 CFU Club Shield campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Turks and Caicos Islands champions SWA Sharks FC on Thursday at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
Kemar Beckford led the offensive charge with a clinical double, while Neron Barrow and Derrel Garcia added a goal apiece to secure the comfortable win. With the victory, Slingerz FC advance to the Round of 16, where they will face Trinidad and Tobago’s Prisons Service FC.
Guyana Falls to Scotland in 3×3 Basketball Opener at Commonwealth Games

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND — Guyana’s Senior Men’s 3×3 Basketball team suffered a hard-fought 21-14 defeat to host nation Scotland in their opening Pool A fixture of the 2026 Commonwealth Games at the Scottish Event Centre.
Guyana held early control of the tempo, but momentum swung midway through the contest as a series of touch fouls pushed Guyana into team penalty limits. Scotland capitalized efficiently from the free-throw line to pull ahead and close out the 21-14 decision.
Three Guyanese Named in West Indies Test Squad to Face Pakistan

ST. MICHAEL, BARBADOS — Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially confirmed a 15-member Senior Men’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Pakistan, scheduled from July 25 to August 6 in Trinidad & Tobago.
Led by Barbadian all-rounder Roston Chase, the squad features three Guyanese players: opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul, all-rounder Kemo Paul, and fast bowler Shamar Joseph. The Caribbean side will be aiming to establish a winning start at home after drawing 1-1 during Pakistan’s previous Test tour in 2021.
Powell’s Unbeaten Knock Guides Amazon Warriors Past Unicorns in GSL Opener

PROVIDENCE, EAST BANK DEMERARA — The Guyana Amazon Warriors opened their ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) 2026 campaign with a tense three-wicket victory over the San Francisco Unicorns on Thursday night at the National Stadium.
After winning the toss and batting first, the Unicorns reached 156 for 6 in 20 overs, anchored by an unbeaten 61 from Hammad Azam, while Dwaine Pretorius and Mohammad Nabi picked up two wickets each for the Warriors. Following a one-hour rain delay during the innings break, the Warriors’ target was revised via DLS to 131 in 16 overs. Led by Player of the Match Rovman Powell’s unbeaten 29, the Warriors reached 131 for 7 in 15.3 overs to seal the win.
