Jumbo Jet Events has officially announced that the 2026 Independence Horse Race Meet will return to the Port Mourant Turf Club on Sunday, May 31st.
Powered by Banks DIH, the meet is regarded as one of Berbiceโs most lucrative sporting traditions. Fans can expect a star-studded lineup featuring Guyana’s elite horses, including Olympic Kremlin, Dataman, and Anthem King.
Football: Grove Dominates Kuru-Kururu to Claim Inter-Village Title
The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sportโs 2026 East Bank Inter-Village Football Tournament reached its thrilling conclusion at the Eccles EE Ground on Sunday.
In the Grand Final, Grove put on a clinical performance to secure a 3-0 victory over Kuru-Kururu. The championship win was fueled by a brace from Dominic Garnette and a clinical strike from Lloyd Matthews. Earlier in the day, Herstelling claimed the third-place trophy following a narrow 1-0 win over Agricola.
Cricket: Shahid Ramzan Shines in GCCโs Commanding Win
In the Georgetown Cricket Associationโs Enline Security Logistics Inc. U-17 Tournament, the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) delivered a masterclass against Queenโs College over the weekend.
National U-15 all-rounder Shahid Ramzan was the standout performer, first anchoring GCCโs innings with a brilliant 58 to help his team reach a total of 240. Ramzan then proved lethal with the ball, claiming 4-11 to dismantle the Queen’s College lineup, leading GCC to a massive 165-run victory.
Cricket: Matthew Nanduโs Unbeaten Century Leads Harpy Eaglesโ Fightback
Action resumed on Monday for Day 2 of the 4-day warm-up match between the Guyana Harpy Eagles and the West Indies Cricket Academy in St. John’s, Antigua.
After the Academy was eventually bowled out for 485, with Richie Looknauth taking 3-86 on the second morning, the Harpy Eagles responded with intent. Guyana reached 248-3 at stumps, led by a magnificent, unbeaten 110 from Matthew Nandu. Opening partner Tagenarine Chanderpaul contributed a steady 59. The Harpy Eagles head into Day 3 trailing by 237 runs with seven wickets in hand.
