LUSIGNAN GOLF CLUB CHAMPIONS GREATER FEMALE PARTICIPATION NATIONWIDE

LUSIGNAN, GUYANA — The Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) is intensifying its advocacy for gender inclusivity in sports, rolling out localized initiatives aimed at accelerating female participation in golf across Guyana.

Club officials pointed to the international and domestic achievements of top-tier Guyanese golfers—including Christine Sukhram, Dr. Joaan Deo, and Shanella London—as vital blueprints inspiring the next generation of women and youth to enter the sport.

Emphasizing that golf remains highly accessible regardless of an individual’s age or athletic experience, the LGC reaffirmed its commitment to offering structured, supportive developmental environments for beginners. Propelled by prominent female role models at the helm, the club plans to expand nationwide developmental opportunities to solidify a diverse future for the sport.

BANDARA’S 163 BUOYS SRI LANKA EMERGING XI AGAINST WI ACADEMY ON DAY ONE

HAMBANTOTA, SRI LANKA — A magnificent century by middle-order batsman Anjala Bandara put the Sri Lanka Emerging XI in a strong position before the West Indies Academy initiated a firm batting response on day one of the first four-day match at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium on Monday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Sri Lankan outfit was bowled out for 356 runs in 90.2 overs. Bandara anchored the innings with a brilliant 163, defying the West Indian bowling attack. For the West Indies Academy, fast bowlers Johann Layne and Ryan Bandoo proved to be the most effective options with the ball, picking up 3 wickets each.

By stumps, the West Indies Academy demonstrated strong subcontinental adaptation, reaching 273-5 after 72 overs. Opening batsman Shaqkere Parris contributed a solid 55, while Mavindra Dindyal added a fluent 60. Captain Rivaldo Clarke led from the front and remains unbeaten on 72 alongside Amari Goodridge, who is currently 14 not out heading into day two.

INCLEMENT WEATHER HANDS SRI LANKA 1-0 ODI SERIES WIN OVER WEST INDIES AT SABINA PARK

KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Unrelenting inclement weather at Sabina Park forced officials to abandon the final two fixtures of the bilateral series, resulting in Sri Lanka officially claiming a 1-0 One-Day International (ODI) series victory over the West Indies.

The visitors established their series-winning advantage during the opening fixture on Wednesday, securing a comfortable 41-run victory. Hopes for a West Indian comeback were thoroughly dampened on Saturday and Monday when consecutive day-night encounters were abandoned without a single ball being bowled due to persistent rainfall.

With the 50-over segment concluded, the regional selectors will shift focus to shorter formats. The West Indies are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in a high-stakes three-match T20 International (T20I) series at Sabina Park, commencing on June 11 and concluding on June 14, 2026.
