Chess: Mars Remains Unbeaten as Olympiad Forces League Pause
Action continued Monday in the Pegasus Weekly Chess League at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown, where Davion Mars cemented his position at the summit of the standings with a hard-fought fourth consecutive victory over candidate master Keron Sandiford.
The win keeps Mars perfect at 4-0, while Sandiford and Ryan O’Neil McKay sit in joint second place with 3 points each. Odinnie Nehezie Reece and Oluwadare Oyeyipo are locked in joint fourth position on 2.5 points.
The league now takes a month-long hiatus until October 5, 2026, as tournament director and FIDE Master Anthony Drayton, along with two league participants, travel to represent Guyana at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, running from September 14–29.
Golf: Patrick Prashad Claims Tour 2 Crown at Lusignan
Veteran golfer Patrick Prashad captured the overall championship in Tour 2 of the PromoTech & Danny’s Auto Sales National Top Flight Golf League, which concluded its eight-round circuit at the Lusignan Golf Course on Sunday.
Prashad entered a disciplined performance in the final round, carding a net score of 67 to earn 8 decisive points and seal the title. Arnold Deo took second place on the day, with Patanjilee Persaud finishing third. In the overall aggregate standings across all eight rounds, Prashad finished at the top with 24 points, edging out Patanjilee Persaud (22 points) in second and Anand Persaud (19 points) in third.
Football: Golden Jaguars Set for Nations League Tests in Dominica
Guyana’s Senior Men’s National Football Team, the Golden Jaguars, are set to launch their Concacaf Nations League (League B, Group A) campaign this month, opening their direct pathway toward qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.
Due to regional venue allocations, both of Guyana’s September window fixtures will be played at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica:
- September 24, 2026: Guyana vs. Puerto Rico
- September 27, 2026: Guyana vs. Cayman Islands

At the Guyana National Stadium in Providence on Tuesday night, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons snapped the unbeaten home run of the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), securing an emphatic 65-run victory.
- First Innings (Falcons): Sent in to bat by GAW skipper Imran Tahir, the Falcons posted a competitive 182 for 5 in their 20 overs. Opener Hasan Nawaz anchored the top order with 36 runs, supported by middle-order acceleration. Tahir (1-28), Mohammad Nabi (1-31), and left-arm spinner Khary Pierre (1-29) claimed one wicket apiece for the Warriors.

Young Guyanese track and field athletes will receive high-performance coaching ahead of the 2026–2027 school sports calendar through the “School Sports Season Prep” clinic, organized by A Record Chance Inc.
The four-day development clinic will take place at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, across two consecutive weekends: September 12–13 and September 19–20, 2026. Open to athletes aged 10 to 20 across all sporting backgrounds, the sessions will focus on biomechanics, sprint mechanics, and field event fundamentals led by a decorated roster of national record holders and certified coaches:
- Sprint & Hurdle Specialists: National 400m record holder Arinze Chance and Olympian Jasmine Abrams
