GUYANA’S HICKS MITTELHOLZER SECURES AGE-GROUP TITLE AT ARUBA MARATHON

ORANJESTAD, ARUBA — National distance runner Hicks Mittelholzer delivered a stellar performance over the weekend, capturing first place in the Men’s 25–29 age group category at the 2026 KLM Aruba Marathon.

Competing in a massive field of 3,000 athletes representing 42 countries, Mittelholzer clocked an impressive time of 3:18:14. His performance also placed him fifth overall among all male competitors in the international event.

Colombia’s Yhon Rodolfo Escamilla Quitian claimed the overall men’s championship, setting a new course record with a time of 2:35:25, while American Emily Nelson secured the overall women’s title.

INTENSE YOUTH ENSEMBLE ACTION SEES MULTIPLE VICTORIES ACROSS FIELDS

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) 2026 Youth Ensemble tournament continued to heat up with a packed schedule of matches contested across several local venues.

In the Under-13 division, young talent was on full display as Netrockers FC, YMCA FC, Herstelling Raiders FC, Kuru-Kururu FC, Moco Moco FC, Flash FC, and Saints FC all secured vital victories to advance in the standings.

The Under-15 bracket proved just as competitive, with defensive grit and clinical finishing carrying the day. Walking away with crucial wins in the U-15 category were Gladiators FC, Jaguar Warriors FC, YMCA FC, Netrockers FC, Friendship Allstars FC, and Kuru-Kururu FC.

MARIAN ACADEMY DOMINATES QUEEN’S COLLEGE 16-0 IN BLUE WATERS U-15 TOURNAMENT

PROVIDENCE, GUYANA — Marian Academy unleashed a relentless offensive display at the National Training Centre (NTC) in Providence on Wednesday, storming to a thumping 16-0 victory over Queen’s College in the GFF 2026 Blue Waters Shipping Under-15 Girls National Secondary School Championship.

The attacking trio of Ella Fernandes, Ashley Walton, and Skylar DeNobrega proved unstoppable for the opposition, with each player netting a sensational four goals. Sariah Samaroo added a double to the scoreline, while Eliana Hinds and Kaleigh Todd chipped in with one goal apiece to round out the double-digit blowout.

Meanwhile, action in Region 6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) on Tuesday featured a much tighter tactical affair. Vryman’s Erven Secondary School managed to dig deep and secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over New Amsterdam Secondary, courtesy of a clutch, decisive strike from Latoya Williams.

PRESIDENT’S COLLEGE SEALS SHUTOUT BLOWOUT TO REACH EAST COAST BASKETBALL FINAL

GOLDEN GROVE, GUYANA — President’s College put on a defensive masterclass on Tuesday, handing Golden Grove Secondary an embarrassing 54-0 shutout victory during the semi-finals of the East Coast Zone Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) 2026 YBG Regional Youth Tournament.

President’s College was spearheaded by a Player of the Game performance from Romarion Wolfe, who anchored a defense that completely stifled Golden Grove from the opening tip to the final whistle.

In the second semi-final matchup, Plaisance Secondary School edged past Hope Secondary in a 20-17 defensive grind. Christopher Ram chipped in with 7 crucial points for Plaisance, while Player of the Game Trevor James dominated the glass, racking up 5 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Following the semi-final results, Plaisance Secondary will battle President’s College for the East Coast Regional title on the President’s College court.

BANDARA HIT BACK-TO-BACK CENTURIES AS FIRST FOUR-DAY MATCH ENDS IN DRAW

HAMBANTOTA, SRI LANKA — A monumental batting display by Anjala Bandara batted the Sri Lanka Emerging XI out of trouble, guiding the hosts to safety as the first four-day match against the West Indies Academy ended in a draw at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium.

Resuming day four on 173-5 in their second innings, the Sri Lankan outfit successfully defied the West Indian bowling attack to reach 401-8 at the close of play. Bandara was the undisputed star of the match, smashing back-to-back centuries and anchoring the host’s fightback with a magnificent, unbeaten 189 off 326 deliveries.

Paceman Johann Layne once again proved to be the most effective weapon for the regional side, picking up figures of 3-61. The West Indies Academy’s developmental tour continues in Hambantota, with the second four-day match scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026.
