Police in St. Kitts and Nevis are investigating disturbing reports that women are being drugged at bars and social events and subsequently sexually assaulted. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force confirmed that its Special Victims Unit is actively probing the allegations.
Law enforcement officials stressed that such reports are being taken seriously and that efforts are underway to identify those responsible while ensuring victims receive appropriate support and access to justice. The police also issued a public safety advisory, urging women and members of the public to exercise heightened caution when attending social gatherings.
Authorities advised individuals to avoid accepting drinks from strangers, refrain from leaving beverages unattended, and, where possible, observe drinks being prepared. Members of the public were also encouraged to attend events with trusted friends, remain together, and be alert to anyone attempting to isolate or pressure them into consuming additional alcohol or substances.
Meanwhile, in Ecuador, a court has sentenced 11 soldiers to 34 years in prison for their role in the abuse and disappearance of four children from the city of Guayaquil. The sentencing, delivered on Monday, followed a year-long investigation into the case, which shocked the nation.
The children were last seen on December 8, 2024, while walking toward a sports field near their community. The ruling, issued amid Ecuador’s intensified national crackdown on crime, is widely seen as a significant step toward accountability within the country’s security forces.
On the international front, China has urged the United States to fulfill what it described as its primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament, following reports that China may have loaded more than 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles at sites near its border with Mongolia.
Responding to a draft Pentagon report, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that, as the world’s most considerable nuclear power, the United States must take the lead by substantially reducing its nuclear arsenal. Beijing argued that such action would create the necessary conditions for broader global participation in nuclear disarmament and arms control efforts.
The comments come amid renewed global scrutiny of nuclear stockpiles and escalating geopolitical tensions involving major world powers.
