HEIGHTENED ALERT: PRIME MINISTER CHECKS READINESS OF BORDER SECURITY FORCES

HGP NIGHTLY NEWS — BORDER ALERT — Prime Minister Mark Phillips, a retired Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, is on the ground in Region One, engaging frontline troops of the Guyana Defence Force and ranks of the Guyana Police Force deployed across border communities, as regional focus intensifies on unfolding developments in Venezuela.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes amid rising geopolitical tension, with his outreach centered on operational readiness, command coordination, and the capacity of joint security forces to respond swiftly in Guyana’s most exposed hinterland areas.

Region One is home to a significant population of Venezuelan migrants who have crossed into Guyana in recent years, fleeing deepening economic hardship and instability across the border.

The presence of vulnerable communities has heightened the need for strong security oversight and community-level vigilance.

During engagements with security ranks, Prime Minister Phillips stressed the urgency of intelligence-sharing, inter-agency cooperation, and proactive community security, while making clear that Guyana’s territorial integrity and public safety remain non-negotiable during this period of elevated regional uncertainty.
