Guyana’s Chief Investment Officer, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, has reaffirmed that the country is on course to become the regional hub for exporting agro-processed food products, driven by innovation, sustainability, and a growing global appetite for authentic Guyanese brands.
Speaking on Day Two of the International Business Conference (IBC 2025), held at the Georgetown Marriott, Dr. Ramsaroop showcased Guyana’s potential through its diverse agro-industrial output — from pepperpot to honey and other natural goods — as part of the country’s expanding green economy.
“So in two or three minutes, you can try this pepperpot and go ‘wow!’… this is our future. We want to be known for our exports. We want to get into the U.S. market,” Ramsaroop told participants.
He emphasized that Guyana’s investment profile should not be viewed in isolation, but rather as part of a dynamic regional growth corridor linking South America and the Caribbean, giving access to over 400 million consumers.
Highlighting Guyana’s honey production, Dr. Ramsaroop noted,
“Imagine buying honey from Guyana — from the Amazon — versus anywhere else. Our bees are in the rainforest. Our brand name is the Amazon. Whatever you produce in Guyana will be considered a green product — and that’s the future the world is moving toward.”
Meanwhile, Namen Ramnarine, Executive Director of the Private Sector Commission, assured investors that the private sector remains ready to facilitate partnerships and help international businesses navigate Guyana’s expanding economy.
“We advocate for businesses and make sure they’re connected with the right people at the right time,” he said.
The session underscored the close collaboration between the government, private sector, and regional partners, aimed at building an investor-friendly ecosystem for sustainable growth.
IBC 2025, hosted by the Suriname–Guyana Chamber of Commerce, concluded on October 16 and brought together business leaders, investors, and policymakers to explore strategies for advancing regional prosperity through partnership and innovation.
