DR. SINGH SAYS MORE THAN 150,000 GUYANESE HAVE RECEIVED OR ARE SET TO RECEIVE $100,000 CASH GRANT

HGP Nightly News – Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh says the Government’s $100,000 cash grant rollout has now crossed a major threshold, with more than 150,000 Guyanese either already receiving their payment or expected to receive it within this week. In an update shared Tuesday night, Singh said the figure now stands at 150,963 persons, signalling what the Government says is a significant expansion of the initiative as it continues to push the grant to citizens across the country, including in remote and hinterland communities.

According to the Finance Minister, that total includes more than 10,000 residents of Region Nine who are receiving their grant through a combination of cheques and direct bank transfers. He explained that 10,417 cheques have already been printed for persons in the region after teams were deployed to assist with registration. Singh said the decision to issue cheques to some residents followed President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s instruction that persons living in hinterland communities, especially those without access to banking facilities or personal bank accounts, must still receive direct assistance under the programme.

Singh also announced that similar support will now be extended to other hinterland regions, where teams are expected to be deployed to help residents who face the same barriers in accessing banking services. He added that those teams will also support shut-ins across the country, including persons who are unable to travel or complete the process on their own. Help desks are also expected to be established in several communities to assist persons who need support getting registered and accessing their grant.

Breaking down the numbers, the minister said direct cash transfers have already been made to 140,546 persons. That figure includes 48,858 central government employees, along with 91,688 persons who successfully self-registered through the new online portal. With the additional payments now being processed for Region Nine residents, Singh said the number of persons receiving the Government’s cash grant within this week has now climbed to 150,963.

The minister also reminded the public of the eligibility requirements for persons seeking to have the $100,000 grant paid directly into their bank account. To qualify, a person must be a Guyanese citizen aged 18 years or older as at February 28, 2026, possess a valid National Identification Card, Digital Identity Card or Guyana passport, have a bank account in their own name at a local commercial bank, and be physically present in Guyana to register. He noted as well that a national help desk has been established to assist persons during working hours, as the Government continues to widen access to the grant and ensure more citizens are able to benefit.
