GEORGETOWN – The health crisis at BV Quamina Primary School has deepened, with the Ministry of Education forced to announce the school will remain closed today, Friday, October 24, 2025, confirming that the notorious pigeon infestation has not yet been eradicated despite recent clean-up efforts.
The initial suspension of classes began earlier this week when the Parent-Teachers’ Association (PTA) took the drastic step of locking out pupils, asserting that the facility posed a serious health risk to students and staff due to the severe buildup of pigeon droppings and nesting debris.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Saddam Hussain issued an advisory confirming the extended temporary closure, stating it is necessary to allow for “additional cleaning, continued rehabilitation works, and the implementation of a permanent solution to the infestation problem.”
The school’s prolonged closure highlights the scale of the maintenance and sanitation failure, which critics claim has persisted for nearly a decade.
CEO Hussain, however, reassured the public that the Ministry is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment, and promised that measures will be implemented to recover all instructional time lost during the closure.
