President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the Ministry of Education have officially commissioned the Waramuri Secondary School, a modern $434 million facility set to serve students from Waramuri and four neighboring villages in the Moruca sub-district, Region One.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, speaking at the commissioning, said the development brings Region One significantly closer to achieving universal access to secondary education, ensuring that all children in the region can receive a quality education without leaving their communities. She announced that construction of the Manawarin Secondary School will begin in November this year.
“This facility not only gives children a higher quality of education, but every trained teacher here will earn a better salary, improving their households as well,” Manickchand noted.
President Ali described the new school as part of the PPP/C government’s commitment to bridging the education gap between coastal and hinterland communities, calling education the most transformative investment in Guyana’s future.
The Waramuri Secondary School is equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms built to national standards, along with fully furnished science, IT, and home economics laboratories. It will accommodate approximately 400 students and provide a nurturing learning environment that strengthens community ties and promotes long-term development.
