WIN CLAIMS CONNECTION BETWEEN DETAINEE AND PRESIDENT AS SOCU PROBE CONTINUES

HGP Nightly News – The We Invest in Nationhood party has condemned this week’s Special Organised Crime Unit operation at Mohamed’s Enterprise, revealing that after more than eight hours of detention and questioning, all five individuals taken into custody were released without charge.

According to WIN, the detainees, including two elderly persons, were released on their own recognizance, requiring no bail or financial surety. SOCU confirmed that no narcotics, no gold or precious metals, no large sums of currency, and no illegal firearms were found during the extensive search. Firearms seized from the detainees were certified as legally registered and licensed and have been returned to their owners. Mobile phones confiscated during the operation were also handed back.

SOCU has stated that a determination regarding one individual will be made on Friday, February 13. To date, no charges have been filed against any of the five detainees.

Connection to the Presidency

WIN identified one of the detained individuals as Safraaz, a man well known to President Irfaan Ali through his employment with the Mohamed family and his role as an emissary between the business and senior government officials, including the president himself. The party highlighted this connection as evidence of what it describes as politically motivated targeting.

“Mr. Safraaz is well known to Irfaan Ali through his employment with the Mohameds and as emissary to the president and other senior government officials,” WIN stated. His detention and subsequent release without charge, the party argues, exemplifies the administration’s pattern of persecution against those associated with the opposition leader.

Millions Expended, Zero Results

WIN characterized the operation as a “so-called big sting” that consumed significant state resources and produced no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. The party pointed to the stark contrast between the scale of the enforcement action—hours of detention, deployment of specialized units, and expenditure of millions in taxpayer dollars—and its complete lack of tangible outcomes.

“Videos are now being circulated by PPP propagandists showing a few thousand GYD in an attempt to create another public spectacle over nothing,” WIN stated, dismissing social media content purporting to show illicit currency as misleading.

A Clear Verdict

The party’s statement was unequivocal: “What occurred today was continued political persecution and targeted harassment. SOCU confirmed no narcotics, no gold or other precious metals, no large amount of currency and no illegal firearms were found.”

WIN concluded by framing the episode as emblematic of broader governance failures. “This is the reality of the ongoing targeting and political persecution under the PPP, all on taxpayers’ expense.”
