GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — Twenty-nine-year-old salesman Angelo Answick appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was formally charged with two counts of manslaughter in connection with the fatal stabbing of two men during an altercation on Water Street, Georgetown.
The charges stem from the deaths of 23-year-old Wreford Vincent Trim and 36-year-old Tyrone Captain, who were fatally injured during a confrontation on Friday morning, August 7, 2026.
Court Proceedings and Self-Defense Submission
Represented by Attorney-at-Law Kiswana Jefford, Answick stood before the court as his legal counsel made an application for bail, arguing that her client acted in self-defense after being ambushed by multiple assailants:
- CCTV Footage Confirmation: A police officer in court confirmed that closed-circuit surveillance footage obtained by investigators captured the events leading up to the encounter. The footage showed the men trailing Answick before one of them struck him with a bottle.
- Third Suspect Fled: The court was informed that a third individual was also involved in the altercation but fled the scene immediately following the stabbings.
- Bail Granted: Following submissions from the defense, Magistrate Daly granted bail set at $750,000 on each manslaughter count, amounting to a total of $1.5 million.
Relationship Dispute and Caution Interview Details
Information obtained by HGP Nightly News indicates that the deadly clash developed amid an ongoing domestic and interpersonal dispute. Investigators established that Tyrone Captain was the former partner of Answick’s current girlfriend and shared a child with her.
During a caution interview with detectives, Answick stated that he entered the relationship in October 2025, which reportedly caused friction with Captain:
“Captain and Trim approached from behind near Bounty Supermarket and began punching and kicking me,” Answick told investigators, alleging that Captain was armed with a knife. Answick claimed that during the physical struggle, he managed to wrest control of the weapon and stabbed both men to defend himself.
He further alleged that Captain had threatened to shoot him several weeks prior to the incident, though no formal police report had been lodged at the time.
Forensic Evidence and Fatal Injuries
The physical confrontation resulted in severe casualties across the downtown commercial district:
- Forensic Recovery: Police recovered a bloodstained knife from the scene for forensic analysis. Answick sustained lacerations to two of his fingers during the struggle.
- Wreford Vincent Trim: Sustained a fatal stab wound to his neck, managed to run a short distance, and collapsed on Commerce Street, where he was pronounced dead.
- Tyrone Captain: Suffered five stab wounds to his upper torso and succumbed to his injuries while receiving emergency medical treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
