WALTON-DESIR CALLS ANTI-CORRUPTION PLEDGE “JAGDEO FIGHTING JAGDEO”

Georgetown, Guyana — In a fiery Facebook Live broadcast on August 18, Forward Guyana Movement leader Amanza Walton-Desir unleashed a blistering attack on the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C)’s 2025 manifesto, branding it a deceptive playbook designed to mislead the nation.

Walton-Desir zeroed in on the government’s headline promise to establish an anti-corruption unit, mocking it as “a prank” and accusing the ruling party of gaslighting the public. “The irony of that is they will have to be against themselves because anti, of course, means against and corruption. So it is gonna be Jagdeo fighting Jagdeo,” she declared, taking direct aim at Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.

She blasted the PPP/C for boasting about enforcing the Freedom of Information Act, asking pointedly, “May I ask Jagdeo and Irfaan what is preventing you from enforcing this Freedom of Information Act now? You are the government.” Walton-Desir reminded viewers that citizens have already taken to protesting outside the Commissioner of Information’s office, highlighting what she described as the administration’s blatant failure to act.

Her criticism did not stop there. Walton-Desir accused the PPP/C of tearing down the State Assets Recovery Agency (SARA) while recycling opposition policies as their own. “They dismantled SARA and now they are selling back our ideas to the public as if it’s theirs,” she charged.

On elections, the Forward Guyana leader sounded the alarm over what she called a “bloated” voters’ list, pointing to claims that deceased persons remain registered and that addresses are riddled with errors. “This is why they know that in spite of the fact that they’re so wildly unpopular, Jagdeo is talking about a super majority,” she warned.

Accusing the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) of evasiveness, she claimed the government’s ultimate plan is to “stuff those ballot boxes.” But Walton-Desir also offered a stark contrast, vowing that the Forward Guyana Movement would pursue a bipartisan National Development Plan to break the cycle of political manipulation.

“You have got to have a blueprint for where you want this country to go… This is why Forward Guyana will implement a national development plan,” she promised.

Ending on a rallying cry, she urged Guyanese to resist what she called five years of deception. “We cannot allow ourselves to be gaslighted. We have to guard the future of this country and safeguard the destiny of our children,” Walton-Desir declared, positioning her movement as the antidote to decades of broken promises.
