THREE CHARGED WITH COCAINE TRAFFICKING – ONE JAILED, TWO REMANDED

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – Three people have been brought before the court in connection with a major cocaine trafficking case, with one already sentenced to prison and two others remanded as they await trial.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Joel Leander, Satrohan Hardowar, and Lorna Scott-Williams appeared before Magistrate George at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court after being accused of having 5.442 kilograms of cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking. The atmosphere in the courtroom was tense as the charges were read, with each defendant standing to enter their plea.

Leander admitted to the charge, telling the court he was guilty. For his role, he was handed a sentence of five years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of GYD $8,163,000. His co-accused, Hardowar and Scott-Williams, both denied the allegation and were remanded to prison until their trial date is set.

But Scott-Williams’s legal troubles did not end there. She was also called to answer to a separate charge of possessing 3.592 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Once again standing before Magistrate George, she pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison pending the outcome of that case as well.

The matter has drawn attention as one of several major drug-related prosecutions being closely watched in recent weeks, with law enforcement officials emphasizing their commitment to pursuing narcotics cases through the courts.
