HGP Nightly News – The Guyana Police Force has confirmed the identities of two young siblings who drowned Tuesday morning in a trench at Melanie Damishana/Enterprise, offering new details about the final hours of their lives.
Jadon De Courte, 10, and Tianna De Courte, 8, both pupils of Melanie Damishana, died after reportedly wandering away from their mother’s side.
According to a police statement, the children left their home with their mother around 8 a.m. on Tuesday and were in the area when they “reportedly wandered away.” What happened in the hours between their departure from their mother and the discovery of their bodies remains under investigation.
At approximately 11:05 a.m., information reached authorities that two children had been found motionless in a trench at Melanie/Enterprise. The mother was alerted and arrived at the scene to identify her own children.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded, but there was nothing to be done. Both children were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police noted that no marks of violence were observed on their bodies, suggesting drowning as the likely cause of death. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together how two young children ended up in the water and why no one was able to reach them in time.
The police force has pledged to provide further information as the investigation progresses. For now, a family mourns, a community grieves, and questions remain unanswered.
