SOULJA BOY’ SLAPPED WITH SEVEN ARMED ROBBERY CHARGES; VICTIMS INCLUDE TEEN CLERK, AND MOTHER

GEORGETOWN – The man known on the streets as “Soulja Boy” is now facing the full weight of the law after being slapped with seven counts of armed robbery — crimes that police say left multiple families shaken and a community on edge.

Orlando Scott, 27, of Lot 1337 ‘E’ Field Cummings Park, Sophia, was arrested on August 5 by ranks from the Turkeyen Police Station. Three days later, on August 8, he stood in the dock at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, listening as Magistrate Sunil Scarce read out the charges.

Four of the counts stem from a July 12 armed robbery in Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, in which a family and a teenage clerk were allegedly targeted. Police say the victims — construction worker Erwin Walcott, 45; technician Shailo Walcott, 22; housewife Bernice Walcott, 42; and 17-year-old audit clerk Jada Hughes — were robbed at gunpoint.

Scott pleaded not guilty to each charge. Bail was refused, and he was remanded to prison until September 23, when the matter will return to court for report and statements.

The remaining charges paint a grim picture of a spree across the East Coast. On June 18, police allege Scott robbed Nikesha Makardajh at Enmore. Just over a week later, on June 27, Chandradai Singh and Balchan Singh were reportedly held at gunpoint in two separate incidents in the same village.

In all three cases, Scott again pleaded not guilty. Each time, bail was denied, and the court adjourned proceedings to September 23.While the legal process plays out, the victims — from a construction worker to a teenage clerk — are left to recover from what police describe as violent and frightening encounters.

The charges against “Soulja Boy” have reignited conversations about armed robberies along the East Coast and the challenges faced by law enforcement in stemming such crimes.
