PRESIDENT SHADE AZRUDDIN: “STAY IN YOUR LANE… THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.”

GEORGETOWN – President Irfaan Ali issued one of his bluntest public warnings yet on Thursday night, delivering a fiery message that many believe was aimed straight at WIN Party leader and businessman Azruddin Mohamed.

The rebuke came during the opening of GuyExpo 2025, just hours after Team Mohamed posted a graphic on social media urging the Government to honour its cash grant campaign promise, a post that spread rapidly and stirred political debate. Although the President never called a name, the timing and tone of his remarks left little room for doubt.

“You don’t need to remind us about our commitment,” Ali said, his voice cutting through the crowd. “We know what our commitments are, and we are going to deliver on every one of them, faster, better, greater. So find your place. Stay in your lane. Don’t get beside yourself. Understand what level you are boxing at.”

He slammed what he described as “simplistic messaging” and attempts to reduce governance to catchy online slogans. “This is not a toy economy,” Ali declared. “This is serious business. AI can’t help you with brain power.” The President warned that oversimplified narratives risk distracting from the technical work required to manage a rapidly transforming economy.

He insisted that Guyana’s development demands “hard work, technical competence, and discipline,” not what he referred to as “social media games” or opportunistic commentary.

While Ali avoided mentioning Mohamed directly, the political subtext was unmistakable. With Team Mohamed’s cash-grant graphic circulating widely hours before his speech, the public quickly connected the dots, and the President’s message was received as a targeted shot across the bow of the WIN leader.
