VPAC Calls for Opposition Unity to Unseat PPP/C at Upcoming Elections

Chairman of the Vigilant Political Action Committee (VPAC), Dorin Bess, is urging all opposition political parties to set aside their differences and unite in a grand coalition to challenge the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) in the upcoming general elections.
With fewer than 90 days remaining before polling day, Bess warned that Guyana is facing a deepening leadership crisis, one that cannot be resolved through race-based politics, egotism, or political inheritance.
“Right now, it’s not about the AFC. It’s not about the PNC. It’s not about the PPP or even VPAC. It’s about the people,” Bess stated passionately. “Let’s put power aside for a moment and build a coalition to govern for all of Guyana.”
Bess harshly criticized the PPP/C, accusing the administration of being entrenched in corruption and unchecked abuse of power. He stressed that Guyana is in desperate need of genuine leadership and a unified purpose.
He also took aim at inter-party tensions, particularly the recent collapse of talks between the Alliance for Change (AFC) and the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), calling for humility and compromise from all political actors.
“This is the time for the AFC, the PNC, and all the other parties to come out and apologize to the people and unite. Stop saying Aubrey Norton isn’t good enough, or Amanza Walton-Desir isn’t liked by one group or another. No government is governed by the president alone.”
Bess emphasized that VPAC does not expect to win the election outright, but it hopes to secure enough support to become part of the next government, where it can influence policy and ensure that Guyana’s resources benefit all its citizens.
“We are going to fight to be part of the next government—not for power—but to champion the policies we believe are best for the Guyanese people.”
The VPAC chairman concluded with a message of resolve, stating that his party remains committed to a better Guyana, free from the shackles of corruption and inequality.
