In the wake of a recent bribery scandal involving two officers at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has issued a strong reminder to citizens: do not offer bribes.
The Force reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, stressing that both members of the public and officers alike must uphold the law. The warning comes as investigations continue into the case where two law enforcement ranks were allegedly caught on camera demanding $10,000 from a departing passenger.
A senior GPF official noted that bribery undermines public trust and compromises national security. The Force further assured the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face the full force of the law.
Citizens are encouraged to report instances of corruption directly to the Police Complaints Authority or through official hotlines.
This development highlights the dual responsibility in tackling corruption — both from those enforcing the law and those seeking services.
