Today marked a significant milestone in Guyana’s election season as members of the Disciplined Services turned out to vote, determining who will lead the next government.
Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken told the press that, based on his observations, the process was smooth and without incident. He explained that his agenda included visiting several central police stations across the capital to monitor the conduct of voting.
Deputy Chief Elections Officer Aneil Giddings also confirmed that the process was seamless, apart from minor issues such as some political parties not issuing accreditation letters to their polling agents on time. He added that aircraft movements to remote regions, including Regions 8 and 9, were proceeding smoothly to ensure all ranks could cast their ballots.
President Irfaan Ali visited a polling location, observing presiding officers and voters during the process. Meanwhile, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum also noted that voting for police ranks was conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.
At the Eve Leary headquarters, members of the Guyana Police Force were seen exercising their constitutional right to vote, underscoring the importance of security forces in the democratic process.
