PNCR/APNU DEMANDS CLARITY ON ‘QUIET RETURN’ OF OFFICER LINKED TO ADRIANNA YOUNGE CASE

GEORGETOWN – The People’s National Congress Reform and the APNU coalition say the Guyana Police Force has a responsibility to explain why Officer Khalid Mandall has been quietly reinstated, despite his earlier removal from duty over the controversial Adrianna Younge matter.

Mandall had been placed on administrative leave during the height of the case, which sparked widespread public concern and brought renewed focus on accountability within the Force. His sudden return to active duty has been done without any announcement or explanation, and the opposition argues that such silence only intensifies public suspicion.

According to the coalition, the nation expected a full update on whether any investigation or internal review had been completed, and what conclusions were reached. Instead, the reinstatement has occurred “in darkness,” they say, leaving citizens unsure whether their concerns were ever properly addressed.

APNU and the PNCR are pressing for answers. They want to know who approved Mandall’s return and what findings informed the decision. They also question why the public, which was once encouraged to take the Younge matter seriously, has now been cut out of the process entirely.

Opposition officials stress that transparency is essential to maintaining trust in law enforcement. They argue that when issues strike at national conscience, as the Adrianna Younge case did, leadership must ensure the public remains informed. Anything less undermines confidence in the institutions responsible for justice and protection.

The coalition maintains that democracy can only thrive when those who wield authority are held accountable for their decisions. They insist this situation demands open communication, not quiet administrative shifts.

In a statement, they reiterated their commitment to advocating for fairness, justice and integrity within Guyana’s public institutions, warning that citizens must never be left questioning whether difficult matters are being swept away without scrutiny.

They concluded that Guyanese deserve straightforward answers; and deserve them now.
