MINISTER PERSAUD URGES PUBLIC CALM AS POLICE PROBE CHILD’S DEATH

HGP Nightly News – Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud is urging the public to avoid rushing to conclusions as police continue their investigation into the killing of seven-year-old Isabella Dabadial, who died at the hands of her mother. In a statement issued amid intense public reaction, the minister said she has been following the comments and emotions surrounding the tragedy, but stressed that clarity must come from the official investigation and not from speculation.

Persaud reminded that the matter is now in the hands of the police and said the facts of the case must be allowed to emerge through the proper process. While acknowledging that many persons have shared strong views and emotional reactions, she made it clear that one fact remains beyond dispute. “A child is dead at the hands of her mother. That’s unlawful, and the law must take its course,” the minister stated, underscoring that whatever the surrounding circumstances may be, the killing of a child cannot be justified.

The minister noted that statements have already come from the father, the grandmother and the mother herself, and said those accounts point to a situation marked by serious and complex problems. Even so, she cautioned against assuming that the public now knows the full story. According to Persaud, there are still many details that remain unclear, and those unanswered questions should not be filled with guesswork. She said that while relationships and family situations can be deeply complicated, the central question remains unchanged: “Is it right to kill your children? No.”

Persaud also addressed the public discussion around mental health, acknowledging that mental health challenges do exist, but warning against using that as a conclusion before the facts are properly established. She said no one yet knows whether mental health issues played a role in this case, and stressed that such determinations must be left to medical professionals. At the same time, she used the opportunity to encourage persons facing mental health struggles, depression or suicidal thoughts to seek help from the Ministry of Health, which is responsible for addressing those issues and providing the necessary support.

In her statement, the minister also questioned whether personal bias may be shaping how some people are responding to the tragedy, either in assigning blame or in defending one side over another. She urged the public to step back, allow the experts to do their work, and let the police investigation unfold without interference from assumptions or emotional narratives. According to Persaud, the country does not yet know all of the details, and that makes caution even more important at a time when the matter is under active investigation.

At the heart of it all, Persaud said, is the devastating loss of a child and the deep pain now being carried by a grieving family. She described Isabella as a beautiful child whose life has been extinguished, leaving behind heartbreak and unanswered questions. The minister added that the tragedy should also serve as a harsh reminder that the decisions made within relationships do not affect only the adults involved, but can have life-changing consequences for children as well. Her final message was clear: blame may come easily, but in the end, the law must prevail.
