UNITY, MAHAICA โ A Sunday afternoon at a local business in Unity, Mahaica, turned into a scene of violence and chaos when two armed suspects shot a young shop owner before crashing their getaway motorcycles into a car. Both men are now under heavy police guard at a regional hospital.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Nikita Motie, is currently being treated for a gunshot wound sustained during the encounter.
The “Customer” Ruse and Shooting
The incident unfolded just after noon on Sunday, May 2, 2026. According to police investigators, the quiet of the midday was shattered when one of the suspects entered Motieโs shop under the guise of being a customer.
- The Demand: The suspect suddenly pulled a firearm and demanded cash.
- The Shooting: As Motie attempted to flee the building to safety, the gunman opened fire, striking her in the right foot.
- The Escape: The two suspects, later identified as 21-year-old Odel Lynch of Sophia and 20-year-old Rawle Davis (alias โNickiโ) of Cummings Lodge, fled the scene on motorcycles.
A Short-Lived Getaway
The suspects’ attempt to disappear into the backlands of Mahaica was thwarted almost immediately by a series of events involving local civilians and a stroke of bad luck for the criminals.
- Civilian Pursuit: A local man, Shameer Mohamed, reportedly witnessed the escape and began a pursuit. During the chase, the suspects allegedly fired at Mohamed, with one bullet grazing him.
- The Collision: A short distance from the crime scene, the suspects’ motorcycles collided with a motorcar, bringing their escape to a violent halt.
- The Arrest: Ranks from the Mahaica District responded swiftly to the crash site, where they apprehended both Lynch and Davis.
Evidence and Investigation
Crime scene investigators have been working to process the various locations involved in the robbery, pursuit, and crash.
- The Weapon: A search of Odel Lynch led to the recovery of a .32 double-barrel pistol and two matching rounds of ammunition.
- Forensics: Police have recovered a warhead from the scene and have swabbed both suspects for gunshot residue. The motorcycle and firearm have been lodged for forensic testing.
- Missing CCTV: Authorities confirmed that no CCTV cameras were observed in the immediate area of the shop. Due to her injuries, Motie has not yet been able to confirm exactly what, if anything, was stolen during the raid.
The brazen nature of the attack, occurring in broad daylight and involving shots fired at both a business owner and a pursuing civilian, has left the Unity community on edge. Both suspects remain admitted to the Enmore Hospital under police guard as investigators continue to record statements. Charges are expected to be laid once the suspects are discharged.
