MABARUMA MAYOR RETURNS TO COURT MARCH 11 AS JUDGE EXCUSES HIMSELF

HGP Nightly News – The legal proceedings against Mabaruma Mayor Trevi Leung have taken a procedural turn, with the presiding magistrate recusing himself from the matter during a Monday court appearance.

Magistrate Clive Nurse stepped aside when the case was called at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court. The matter will now be sent to Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty in Georgetown for reassignment to another judicial officer.

Leung, represented by attorney Vinay Punwa, has been charged with sexual touching and common assault. The charges were formally read to him during a previous appearance before Magistrate Nurse.

Bail was granted in both matters. $50,000 for the sexual touching charge and $20,000 for common assault, bringing his total bail to $70,000.

The Mayor has denied the allegations.Following Monday’s development, the case was adjourned to March 11, pending reassignment.
