Mother of Dead Guyanese Woman in Cayenne Calls for Justice, Questions Spouse’s Story

The mother of 34-year-old Coretta Blair Sandy, a Guyanese woman found dead in French Guiana, is pleading with authorities for justice, after her daughter’s body was discovered wrapped in sheets and dumped in a swamp behind her spouse’s home in Cayenne.
Coretta’s father positively identified the body, confirming the family’s worst fears. According to her mother, Trisha Blair Sandy, the corpse showed signs of both gunshot wounds to the face and multiple lacerations, raising serious suspicions of premeditated murder.
“She was shot in the face and had cuts on her skin. Even if someone made a mistake and fired a shot, where did the cuts come from?” her grieving mother asked.
Coretta had traveled with her partner, Terrence Glasgow, to French Guiana on May 29. Glasgow later returned alone to Guyana, telling Coretta’s mother that they were attacked by two gunmen while en route to Suriname. However, the fact that her body was found just yards from his home has only intensified public scrutiny and allegations of foul play.
“You say you were attacked and fired back—but my daughter is found wrapped up, right in the back where you living?” Blair Sandi questioned.
Call for Extended Custody and International Cooperation
The mother is urging local police to extend Glasgow’s custody to allow French authorities adequate time to conduct a thorough autopsy and investigation before he can be released or potentially flee jurisdiction.
“I want him to stay in custody until the autopsy is finished and the body is handed over. If he walks free before the findings are complete, I may never get justice for my daughter.”
History of Concerns
Trisha Blair Sandy also revealed that she had expressed concerns to her daughter in the past, noting changes in her behavior when around Glasgow.
“I always talk to my daughter. I told her, ‘Be careful.’ I don’t know what more I could have said.”
Police Statement
Assistant Commissioner of Police Khali Pareshram, Commander of Police C Division, confirmed that Terrence Glasgow has been released on bail as investigations continue jointly between Guyana Police and French authorities.
The case has sparked significant public interest, with many calling for increased scrutiny of cross-border violence and more robust cooperation between Guyana and French Guiana’s law enforcement agencies.
