HGP Nightly News – The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce says a post-event revenue survey of vendors at the One Guyana Christmas Village shows strong sales across the holiday season, with estimated vendor earnings collectively exceeding GY$182 million over the life of the event.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry said the survey examined revenue performance for 100 vendors who operated at the Christmas Village over a 25-day period. To analyse earnings patterns, the ministry used a sample of 41 vendors, relying on self-reported daily earnings to determine average performance levels and revenue ranges.
According to the ministry’s findings, vendors at the lower end of reported earnings, bringing in roughly GY$55,000 per day, would have generated about GY$1.37 million over the vending period. At the higher end, vendors who reported average daily earnings of GY$250,000 recorded aggregate revenues of approximately GY$6.25 million over the same timeframe.
The ministry said the overall trend points to sustained consumer spending and consistent activity throughout the event, with the data suggesting that most vendors experienced steady sales during the peak holiday period.
Officials said the results strengthen the case for the Christmas Village as a practical marketplace for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), including artisans, food vendors, and creative entrepreneurs, offering structured access to customers and opportunities to earn.
The ministry noted that the survey outcomes align with the Government’s wider push for inclusive economic growth through organised marketplaces, expanded consumer access, and support for small business development. It said initiatives like the Christmas Village are intended to lower barriers for entrepreneurship and create direct income opportunities when demand is strongest.
While highlighting the positive results, the ministry also stressed that the survey is based on a representative sample and said the findings will be used to shape planning for future editions. Further analysis, officials said, is expected to guide improvements in areas such as vendor placement, marketing support, and operational logistics, with the aim of expanding participation and boosting profitability and sustainability going forward.
The ministry said it remains committed to working with stakeholders to build platforms that drive local enterprise and help businesses of varying sizes thrive.
