KFC International Schools Football Tournament Returns December 14–21
The 6th edition of the KFC International Schools Football Championship will return from December 14–21, 2025, promising an exciting week of football action at the Ministry of Health Ground on Carifesta Avenue and the Queen’s College Ground on Thomas Lands.
For the first time, Brazil’s Monttero Lobato School and the Bahamas’ Anglican Central Education Authority will compete alongside regional and local teams. Defending champions Chase Academy and Anni Secondary will represent Guyana, while the final local contender will be selected from the Republic Bank League.
Other confirmed participants include Kingston College (Jamaica), St. Benedict’s College (Trinidad & Tobago), and a Suriname team to be named in November. The eight teams will compete in group play, with the top four advancing to the semi-finals.
Elite League Season 7 Resumes This Weekend
The Guyana Football Federation’s Elite League Season 7 resumes this weekend at the National Training Center in Providence.
- Saturday: Ann’s Grove United vs. Mainstay Gold Stars; Monnlas vs. Slingers FC
- Sunday: Fruta Conquerors vs. Den Amstel; Santos vs. Guyana Defence Force FC
Guyana Basketball Federation Honored by Caribbean Basketball Confederation
The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has been recognized by the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) for its outstanding contribution to basketball development in the region.
During the CBC Assembly in Mexico City, the GBF received the award for its leadership in hosting regional tournaments and investing in youth development—especially in the fast-growing 3×3 basketball format.
Receiving the award were Vice Presidents Royal Tony and German Slater and General Secretary Patrick Haynes, who dedicated it to all affiliates and the Government of Guyana.
Cricket West Indies Confirms Major Calendar Restructure
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced sweeping changes to its 2026 regional cricket calendar due to severe financial constraints.
CEO Chris Dehring revealed that:
- The Under-17 tournament has been scrapped.
- The women’s competitions will be merged.
- The Combined Campuses & Colleges and West Indies Academy teams will no longer participate.
Despite the cuts, player retainers and match fees will remain intact. CWI has outlined a four-pronged recovery plan focused on lobbying the ICC, restructuring domestic tournaments, strengthening CARICOM partnerships, and attracting regional corporate support.
India Dominates West Indies on Day Two of First Test
India’s batsmen took full control of the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
- KL Rahul (100), Drew Jurel (125), and Ravindra Jadeja (104*) all scored centuries.
- India closed Day Two on 448 for 5, leading by 281 runs.
- West Indies bowlers Jamal Warren, Roston Chase, and debutant Kyrie Pierre claimed key wickets.
