Football:
Action continued in the Blue Waters Shipping U-15 Girls National Secondary Schools Championship in Linden. Christiansburg Wismar Secondary defeated Mackenzie High 2–1, before Mackenzie bounced back with a 1–0 win over Dora Secondary. The final game ended 1–1 between Christiansburg and Dora. President’s College, Annai Secondary, Bush Lot Secondary, and Christiansburg Wismar have advanced to the final four, with remaining fixtures set for October 18–19.
Basketball:
Guyana will open its campaign in the FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship against The Bahamas on November 12 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The five-team tournament, featuring The Bahamas, Jamaica, Suriname, the Virgin Islands, and Guyana, will determine three qualifiers for the 2026 Centrobasket Women’s Championship.
Horse Racing:
At the Demerara Turf Club’s Gymkhana and Race Day in Mocha, Top Rankin claimed the $1 million feature prize after rival World Boss slipped and was dismounted. Other winners included Rude Boy, Damage Control, and Kiss, each securing victories in their respective classes.
Golf:
Guyanese golfers dominated the DSB Surinamese Invitational in Paramaribo. Avinash Persaud was crowned overall champion, Patanjalee Persaud won the B Class, and Eureka Giddings and Shanella London earned podium finishes and special awards, highlighting Guyana’s strong regional showing.
Cricket:
India swept the West Indies 2–0 in their Test series, clinching the final match in New Delhi by 7 wickets. KL Rahul anchored the chase, while Kuldeep Yadav earned Player of the Match, and Ravindra Jadeja took Player of the Series honors.
Athletics:
The New Amsterdam Synthetic Track & Field Stadium is 85% complete, following inspection by Ministers Charles Ramson Jr. and Steven Jacobs. The facility, featuring a Regupol synthetic track and football field, is expected to meet international standards and be ready by late November 2025.
