The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, in partnership with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) and the Guyana Overseas Based Sports Association, is ready to host the 2026 Independence Track & Field Classic.
Scheduled for May 23rd at the National Track & Field Centre in Leonora, the event is a cornerstone of Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Fans can expect a high-stakes showdown between the nationโs top locally-based athletes and their overseas-based counterparts. The action jumps off at 10:00hrs, with general admission priced at $1,000.
Football: Blue Water Shipping Girls U-15 Championship Officially Launched
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and Blue Water Shipping have officially kicked off the 3rd edition of the Girls U-15 National Championship. The launch took place at the National Training Centre in Providence on Wednesday.
This yearโs tournament is more inclusive than ever, with over 70 schools from across the country set to participate. Notably, Mahdia will compete for the first time in the tournament’s history. The initiative remains a vital pillar for grassroots development, fostering discipline, teamwork, and confidence among young female players.
Futsal: Bent St. “A” Storm into One Guyana Semi-Finals
In the 2026 One Guyana Stars Among Stars Futsal Tournament, Bent St. “A” has signaled they are the team to beat. Playing at the National Gymnasium on Wednesday, the Central Georgetown powerhouse delivered a masterclass in the quarter-finals, thumping Laing Ave Ballers 6-0. The win secures their spot in the “Final 4,” with semi-final action set to ignite this Friday.
Basketball: Saint Stanislaus College Dominates North Georgetown
Action in the 2026 Regional Youth Basketball Tournament saw Saint Stanislaus College pull off a commanding 36-17 victory over North Georgetown Secondary at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
While North Georgetownโs Breann Ritchie fought hard with 9 points and 4 rebounds, they were no match for the clinical performance of Josiah Lee. Lee dominated the court for Saint Stanislaus, racking up a massive 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 steals to lead his team to victory.
Cricket: Harpy Eagles Secure Innings Victory; Prepare for Grand Final
The Guyana Harpy Eagles wrapped up a dominant performance in their 4-day warm-up match against the West Indies Cricket Academy in St. John’s, Antigua. After being bowled out for a massive 663 (resuming from 655-8), the Eagles held a formidable 178-run lead.
The Academyโs second innings crumbled for just 157, handing Guyana a victory by an innings and 21 runs. Richie Looknauth was the hero with the ball, tearing through the Academy’s lineup to finish with exceptional figures of 6-36.
The Harpy Eagles now shift their focus to the Grand Final of the CWI 2026 Regional 4-Day Championship, where they will face the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium from May 17th to 20th.
