Competing in the men’s 400-meter event while representing Louisiana State University (LSU) at Hayward Field on Wednesday, Austin lined up in a highly competitive heat number 1. The performance left him narrowly missing out on both an automatic qualification spot and a time-based qualification slot, ending his chances of advancing to the prestigious national final.

ABRAM ZUIL, GUYANA — Exciting zonal finals took center stage as the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) 2026 Blue Waters Shipping Under-15 Girls National Secondary School Championship crowned new regional champions following a pair of intense, low-scoring encounters.

At the Tapakuma Football Field in Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Abram Zuil Secondary rose to the occasion to emerge as the Region 2 Zone Champions. Canje’s victory was secured on the back of a dazzling, individual finish from Isis Abbensets, booking their ticket to the national knockout phase.

Shai Hope’s Unbeaten 65 Guides West Indies to Comfortable T20I Victory Over Sri Lanka

KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Captain Shai Hope led by example to anchor a disciplined run chase, guiding the West Indies to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at Sabina Park on Thursday night to take an early 1-0 lead in their three-match T20 International series.

After winning the toss and electing to exploit early moisture by bowling first, the Windies’ bowling unit produced a clinical performance to limit Sri Lanka to a modest 147-9 in their allotted 20 overs. Middle-order batsman Kamindu Mendis offered the primary resistance for the visitors, top-scoring with a resilient 51. However, the host’s pace attack proved too hot to handle, as Shamar Joseph and Player of the Match Jason Holder ripped through the order, picking up three wickets apiece.

In reply, the West Indies top-order made light work of the target, cruising to 149-3 in 19.2 overs. The chase was anchored flawlessly by Captain Shai Hope, who smashed an unbeaten 65 off the bat to eliminate any late-innings pressure.

The West Indies will look to wrap up the home series when the two teams square off for match number 2 at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, with the first ball scheduled to bounce from 20:30 hrs on Saturday.
