Marian Academy Secures North Georgetown Zonal Title Over Chase Academic Foundation
PROVIDENCE, GUYANA — Marian Academy were crowned the North Georgetown Zone Champions of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) 2026 Blue Waters Shipping Under-15 Girls National Secondary School Championship on Friday, following a dramatic conclusion to the group stage.
Playing under the floodlights at the GFF National Training Centre (NTC) in Providence, Marian Academy faced off against bitter rivals Chase Academic Foundation in the final zonal fixture. The intensely physical and tactical encounter ended in a 0-0 stalemate after both defensive backlines refused to yield.

Marian Academy swept the individual post-tournament awards as well; Skylar DeNobrega concluded the preliminary round as the zone’s leading goal scorer, while team captain Kaleigh Todd was formally recognized as the Most Outstanding Player for her brilliant midfield orchestration.
Shemaine Campbell’s Unbeaten 90 Powers West Indies Women Past New Zealand in T20 World Cup Opener
SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND — The West Indies Women commenced their 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in spectacular fashion on Saturday, routing powerhouse New Zealand by seven wickets at the Ageas Bowl in West End, Southampton.
After winning the toss and electing to field, the Windies bowling attack targeted the decisiveness of the Kiwi top-order, limiting New Zealand to a manageable 162-6 in their allotted 20 overs. Middle-order bat Brooke Halliday top-scored for the White Ferns with a well-played 40, but her efforts were consistently neutralized by West Indian medium-pacer Aaliyah Alleyne, who finished as the pick of the bowlers with an exceptional four-wicket haul for 27 runs (4-27).
The regional side’s response was nothing short of emphatic. The West Indies Women cruised to 163-3 with just one ball to spare in the final over (19.5), anchored entirely by a masterful, masterclass innings from Player of the Match Shemaine Campbell. The Guyanese-born batter anchored the chase from ball one, remaining unbeaten on a magnificent 90 runs off just 62 deliveries to easily guide her team across the line.
The West Indies Women will look to carry this winning momentum forward when they travel north to face Scotland at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on Thursday.
Shamar Joseph and Sherfane Rutherford Clean Up Sri Lanka to Seal T20I Series for West Indies
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — The West Indies Senior Men’s side successfully claimed their highly anticipated three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka following a heart-stopping finale at the historic Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
The home side opened the series on Thursday with a comfortable seven-wicket victory, but suffered a setback on Saturday when a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling unit handed the Windies a 37-run loss in match number two to level the series.
Sunday’s series-deciding match culminated in an absolute thriller of a run chase. The West Indies response was anchored by a clutch, unbeaten 54 from middle-order batsman Sherfane Rutherford. With the game formatting down to a tense final few overs, power-hitter Jason Holder turned the tide completely, blasting three consecutive sixes in a breathtaking cameo of 21 runs off just 5 balls to tilt the scales.
The Windies eventually scraped home to hit 149-5, securing a five-wicket victory with under an over to spare to claim a hard-fought 2-1 series triumph.
Earlier in the evening, young Guyanese sensation Shamar Joseph was absolutely lethal with the white ball, dismantling the Sri Lankan batting order with a brilliant five-wicket haul to finish with figures of 5-33. For his tournament-defining performances—which included picking up a total of 11 wickets across the three matches—Joseph was deservingly named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
The West Indies men will now shift focus to the longest format of the game, as they prepare to clash with Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series commencing on June 25, 2026, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
