Athletics: Malachi Austin Rewrites the Record Books
Guyana has a new king of the track. Standout national athlete Malachi Austin is now officially the South American U-20 400m record holder.
- The Performance: Representing Louisiana State University (LSU) at the LSU Open this past Saturday, Austin delivered a breathtaking performance, clocking a blistering 45.37 seconds.
- The Achievement: This time not only secured him a dominant victory but etched his name into the global history books, signaling his arrival as a major threat on the international circuit heading into the 2026 season.
Golf: Three-Way Tie at the Top of Lusignan Leaderboard
The tension is mounting at the Lusignan Golf Course following Round 6 of the 2026 National Top Flight Golf League.
- Round 6 Winner: Fazil Haniff emerged as the weekend champion, winning on a tie-break with a net score of 66, narrowly edging out Joseph Szeplaki.
- The Standings: With only two rounds remaining, the title race is a dead heat. Fazil Haniff, Videsh Persaud, and Joseph Szeplaki are all tied for 1st place with 17 points each.
- The Chasers: Brian Hackett (16 points) and Patanjilee Persaud (15 points) remain within striking distance, setting the stage for a dramatic season finale.
Hockey: Masters Ladies Depart for World Cup in Nottingham
Guyana’s Masters Ladies Hockey Team is locked and loaded for the 2026 World Cup Masters Indoor Championships, set to run from March 26th–31st in the UK.
- The Venue: The team will compete at the prestigious David Ross Sports Village in Nottingham.
- The Boost: Ahead of their departure, the squad received a significant morale boost with a donation of new official uniforms, courtesy of Cevons Waste Management. The team departs as ambassadors for Guyanese sportsmanship on the world stage.
Cricket: Reshaud Gaffur’s 151 Powers Cotton Tree Victory
Run-scoring was the order of the day in the Anil Lalsa Construction Service 40 Overs Tournament as Cotton Tree Die Hard faced off against D’Edwards Sports Club.
- The Total: Sent in to bat first, Cotton Tree piled on a massive 323 in 39.2 overs. The innings was anchored by a “magnificent” 151 from Reshaud Gaffur.
- The Defense: D’Edwards Sports Club put up a fight but were eventually bowled out for 262 in 34.3 overs. Arif Khan proved to be the difference-maker with the ball, returning figures of 4–49 to secure the 61-run victory.
Cricket: ACS Ends Guyana Tour with Hard-Fought Win Over Police
The American Cricket Society (ACS) tour of Guyana concluded on a high note this Saturday at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground.
- Police Innings: The GPF Sports Club reached 199-9 in their 25 overs, led by a solid 76 from Kemol Savory. ACS bowlers Jagdesh Dowlatram and Ryan Francis were clinical, taking three wickets apiece.
- The Chase: ACS reached the target in 23.5 overs, finishing on 203-7. Raymond Perez was the hero of the chase with a match-winning 65.
- The Resistance: Despite a valiant effort from Quinton Sampson, who took 3–36, the lawmen couldn’t prevent the visitors from flying home with a final victory.
