U.S. Condemns Haiti Massacre, Trump’s Strike Draws Criticism, and Maduro Targets Trinidad

Haiti
The United States has called for urgent cooperation between Haitians and the international community to tackle terrorist gangs, following last weekend’s Labadri massacre that left more than 40 people dead.

In a statement, Washington “strongly condemned the terrorist gangs behind this senseless attack,” stressing that Haitians and the world must unite to end the violence. The groups accused of the killings are reportedly linked to the criminal coalition FIFAM, which fired indiscriminately at residents accused of being police informants.

Provisional reports from local officials confirm at least 42 deaths, including children. Residents remain on edge, fearing further executions. UN Secretary-General António Guterres also condemned the murders, extending condolences to the victims’ families and urging Haitian authorities to pursue justice.

United States / Caribbean
U.S. President Donald Trump is under heavy criticism after disclosing that he ordered a military strike on a boat allegedly carrying drugs from Venezuela, which killed three people on board.

Senator Jack Reed, a ranking member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, denounced the move as “an outrageous violation of the law” and “a dangerous assault on our constitution.” He warned that such unauthorized actions could ignite a war with Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Trump also submitted his 2026 major drug transit list to Congress, naming four Caribbean Community countries—The Bahamas, Belize, Haiti, and Jamaica—as major drug transit or producing nations. Other countries identified include Colombia, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.

Trinidad and Tobago / Venezuela
Tensions also flared between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago on Monday, after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accused Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of adopting positions tantamount to “a declaration of war.”

“Who’s behind this? Who’s whispering in her ears?” Maduro asked during a press conference, linking Persad-Bissessar’s stance to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whom he accused of fueling regional violence.

Persad-Bissessar, however, reaffirmed that her government’s top priority is the safety of the Trinidadian people, declaring: “I would dare to do what I have to do to keep the people of Trinidad and Tobago safe. That is my priority.”

Venezuela has since announced the deployment of its “Independence 200” military plan, mobilizing the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and militias across 284 battle fronts.
