Venezuela Issues Warning to Guyana, T&T Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a stern warning to Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago, cautioning that if either country lends itself to U.S. aggression against his government, they would face a forceful and proportional response.
The warning, made via social media, comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions. According to reports, the Trump administration identified a secret underground bunker at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, allegedly used by Maduro and senior Venezuelan officials, including Minister Diosdado Cabello. The facility reportedly has five underground levels with military barracks, a gym, and oxygen supply for 25 days, guarded by Cuban security forces.
Venezuela’s Defense Minister, General Vladimir Padrino López, reiterated the warning, stating:
“If an attack against Venezuela is launched from those territories, we will respond proportionally in legitimate defense of our sovereignty.”
He accused both Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago of following directives drafted in Washington and urged them not to allow U.S. forces to use their territories as bases.
Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has not publicly responded but is expected to address the matter during her speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 26, 2025.
