Trinidad and Tobago – 9/11 Anniversary
The government of Trinidad and Tobago has reaffirmed its commitment to working shoulder-to-shoulder with the United States and international partners to combat terrorism worldwide.
In a statement marking the 24th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said Trinidad and Tobago stands with the global community in remembering the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, including 14 nationals of Trinidad and Tobago.
She noted that terrorism recognizes no borders, no creed, and no humanity, stressing that her government will remain vigilant and resilient in defending people and values against modern threats.
Haiti – Humanitarian Crisis
In Haiti, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher ended a visit on Wednesday, warning that the French-speaking Caribbean nation urgently needs greater support amid immense suffering.
Fletcher visited a women’s support center for survivors of gender-based violence, where he heard accounts of brutal sexual attacks and displacement. He also toured camps where families, many displaced multiple times, are struggling with poor living conditions, lack of healthcare, clean water, and education for their children.
He stressed that Haitians want nothing more than a chance to rebuild their lives, urging the global community to do better.
United States – Charlie Kirk Shooting
In international news, Charlie Kirk, a close ally of former U.S. President Donald Trump, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
The FBI confirmed that a man previously described as a central subject in the investigation was released after questioning, and no one is currently in custody. Authorities say the multi-agency manhunt for the shooter is ongoing.
