Barbados Regulators Monitor Millions Linked to Global 1MDB Laundering Probe
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Financial watchdogs in Barbados are tracking highly suspicious transactions involving millions of dollars allegedly tied to the sweeping 1MDB international corruption scandal.
The Central Bank of Barbados and the Financial Services Commission (FSC) confirmed their heightened monitoring after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) successfully secured a foreign court order to freeze approximately US$1.7 million held in a Barbados-based bank.
According to investigators, the targeted funds are linked to a network of offshore companies that allegedly received, concealed, and transferred the proceeds of unlawful activities between 2014 and 2019. The frozen assets include roughly US$1.65 million connected to one institution and more than US$56,000 tied to an investment entity.
Central Bank Governor Kevin Greenidge acknowledged awareness of the foreign court order but declined to comment on specific supervisory details. Greenidge emphasized that Barbados maintains a robust regulatory framework requiring strict adherence to anti-money laundering obligations and continues to cooperate fully with both domestic and international law enforcement agencies.
Jamaica Heightens Port Surveillance Amid Regional Hantavirus Concerns
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Jamaica — Health authorities in the western parish of Westmoreland have intensified surveillance measures at all local ports of entry following international reports of a hantavirus outbreak on a regional cruise ship.
Dr. Marcia Graham, the Medical Officer of Health for Westmoreland, assured the public during a municipal meeting that Jamaica has recorded no suspected or confirmed cases of the severe respiratory disease. However, proactive screening and contact monitoring protocols have been tightened due to the virus’s long incubation period, which ranges from one to eight weeks. Those suspected of contact face quarantine mandates of at least six weeks.
Dr. Graham strongly condemned the spread of online misinformation, noting that fraudulent public health notices bearing the official Ministry of Health logo have been circulating on social media. She urged citizens to rely strictly on verified updates from the Ministry, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Residents are also encouraged to bolster rodent-control and mosquito-breeding prevention measures across their communities.
Pakistan Relays Revised Iranian Peace Proposal to United States as Ceasefire Fails
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan has formally delivered a revised Iranian peace proposal to Washington in a high-stakes diplomatic bid to end the Middle East war, though inside sources warn that time is rapidly running out to bridge deep geopolitical divisions.
The diplomatic lifeline comes amid an incredibly fragile six-week ceasefire that U.S. President Donald Trump has described as being “on life support.” Talks stalled after joint U.S.-Israeli strikes earlier this year led to widespread regional escalation, including a partial blockade of the critical Strait of Hormuz—a transit point for one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.
Key Demands and Sticking Points
| Country | Primary Directives & Demands |
| United States | • Complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program. • Immediate, unconditional lifting of the Strait of Hormuz blockade. • Enforcement of strict maritime security frameworks. |
| Iran | • Financial compensation for war-related damages. • Immediate lifting of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports. • A comprehensive halt to fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon. |
While Tehran continues to deny any ambitions to build a nuclear weapon, Washington and major global powers insist that permanent nuclear constraints must be part of any final settlement. Trump issued a stark warning to Tehran via Truth Social, stating that “the clock is ticking,” and is scheduled to meet with national security advisers to review outstanding military options.
