Jamaica Denies Refusing Repatriation of Convicted Murderer

The Government of Jamaica has refuted claims by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that it refused to accept the return of a Jamaican national convicted of serious crimes in the United States.

Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia Miller stated that five foreign nationals โ€” from Jamaica, Vietnam, Cuba, Yemen, and Laos โ€” were recently deported to the Kingdom of Eswatini, reportedly because their home countries declined to accept them. The Jamaican in question was said to have received 25 years for murder, 6 years for robbery, and 6 months for weapons possession. The Jamaican government, however, disputes that it ever refused repatriation of its citizens.


New Surinamese President Calls for Unity and Fiscal Discipline

Surinameโ€™s new President, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, was officially sworn in this week, vowing to ensure that anticipated offshore oil and gas revenues improve living standards for all citizens.

In her inaugural address at the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall, Geerlings-Simons called for national unity, fiscal discipline, and a diversified economy to reduce dependence on extractive industries such as gold and oil.

โ€œLet us all work hand in hand, side by side, shoulder to shoulder, to make Suriname what we want it to be for ourselves and our children,โ€ she declared.

She also quoted the work of renowned Surinamese poets Dubru and Shrinivรกsi, urging citizens not to “wander blindly” but to embrace diversity and build a collective future.


Ukraine Appoints New Prime Minister Amid Wartime Reforms

Ukraineโ€™s parliament has appointed Yulia Usenko as the newย prime minister,ย part of a significant cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening wartime governance and reviving the nationโ€™s battered economy.

Usenko, 39, will be responsible for boosting domestic arms production and stimulating economic resilience as Ukraine continues to resist Russian aggression. The country has increasingly relied on foreign loans, making financial stability a pressing concern.
