With seven days remaining until Christmas, gospel artiste Enea Benjamin has released a new seasonal song titled “Everyday Christmas Day,” aimed at renewing hope and encouragement for those who may be feeling discouraged during the holiday season.
Benjamin, a respected figure in Guyana’s gospel music fraternity with more than three decades of ministry, said the song was inspired by the need to look beyond the commercialisation of Christmas and return to its deeper meaning of love, faith, and compassion.
In an interview with HGPTV Nightly News, the gospel singer explained that her songwriting process is rooted in spiritual reflection and lived experiences.
“When I write a song, the Holy Spirit gives me these songs, and sometimes it is based on your experiences,” Benjamin shared.
She noted that many people—believers and non-believers alike—often allow life’s hardships to overshadow joy and purpose, especially during the festive season.
“It is a very realistic song because we need to live every day as if it is Christmas Day… and live life every day like it’s Christmas Day,” she said.
Benjamin added that Christmas should not be confined to a single day of giving, but rather reflected in everyday acts of kindness, generosity, and empathy, particularly toward the less fortunate. She lamented that the true essence of the season has been diluted by materialism, moving away from family togetherness and shared values.
The gospel artiste, who hails from Kitty, Georgetown, recalled discovering her passion for music through church and later honing her craft as a background vocalist for fellow Guyanese gospel singer Cherlyn Maloney, performing with the Gospel Flames and Gospel Ambassadors bands.
Despite not receiving what she believes to be due recognition for her long service in gospel music, Benjamin said she remains steadfast in faith and humility.
“God’s timing for elevation is unpredictable. I trust God, and I will never give up because He promised He will never leave nor forsake me,” she said.
Benjamin credited her family, especially her mother, for their unwavering support throughout her musical journey. She also revealed plans to collaborate with other gospel musicians in the near future.
